Semester Overview

Here is where I am going to try and fill in all the gaps.

Wed. February 20th and 21st we recorded. On the 20th we laid down all the music tracks, and on the 21st we did vocals.

Sun. March 23rd Went into studio for the first time to get a rough mix. I waited so long after we recorded because I didn't want to start studio until after spring break.

Wed. March 26th Went into studio to do more rough cut mixing. I messed up and accidentally brought down the main mixer faders while I was adjusting levels, and I couldn't figure out why the song mix was so quite. Until it hit me that night in bed.

Wed April 2nd I finished my rough mixes.

Saturday April 12th I had my first meeting with Stan, he helped me a lot with my mix. He just helped me with one song, and had me study it and apply the same basic ideas to my other mixes.

The week of April 13th through the 19th I couldn't get into studio, every time I tried to get in, all the suites were full. I was however able to meet with Stan one time during this week, with Charles, and helped me further on with my mixes.

Wednesday April 23rd had a practice run for our showcase, both Charles and my mixes didn't come up in surround, only stereo. Hopefully we can fix this for the real deal on Friday May 2nd.

April 28th I am scheduled to meet with Stan tomorrow on the 29th at 10:20am, I am hoping to show him my improved songs, and hope that they will be good enough to bounce them out in surround. So Charles and I can put them on the DVD for our showcase.

Almost there.

I had my meeting with Stan yesterday. He helped me a lot with one song Closer. Then he told me to study what he had done and do that to the other mixes. I still have to put some automated mutes, and fade outs for the song as well. Stan also helped me to put the song in 5.1 souround sound. I still need to do that with the others.

My last two songs are done rough cuts are over.

Thats right I finished my last two songs last night. I honestly don't like how my last two songs have turned out, they sound muddied and congested. I have to go through them and figure out how to clean them up. I hope Stan can help me.

Two more down Three more to go.

I got into the studio yesterday. I got the levels to where I wanted them and added some reverb to the vocals and everything. When I was leaving I thought the songs were quite for some reason and after thinking about it I think I made a mistake and when I brought down the levels at the beginning of the session I brought down the master fader as well, and forgot to bring it up.

One Down Four More To Go.

Alright I finally got into studio this afternoon, finally after a week of telling myself that I should get started on mixing. I got one song pretty close to done I feel, and I cant wait to get in there early this week to finish a couple more songs off.

Monday Me and Charles met with Stand to discuss what equipment we were going to use, and talked about patching. Also discovered that we were kicked out of the studio on Tues night because of CEC for the summer movie. So we had to load in on Wednesday and record the same night. Wednesday night the recording went well, we finished laying down all the music, and even got several vocals laid down for several songs. Thursday night we finished vocals, Charles laid down the main vocals, then me and several other guys put down some gang vocals. We were finished in the studio by 9:30, but again this was because of the CEC being done for the summer film, again. I was really upset that we were limited on time on Thursday, because if we needed any more time it would have been CEC's fault in the first place that we weren't getting enough studio time. Fortunately the band knew their stuff was able to get it done with even less time than needed.

The Final Count Down

Ok so me and Charles went to TCOM 333's first recording session this past weekend in order to prepare for our own coming up next week. I feel that we have everything under control, Charles has a list of all the equipment, and all the mics and equipment of stuff that we want to use. He's in the band and he knows how he wants it to sound, so thats good that we have that vision already of what we want.
